There are a few minor differences between the PC Engine version (Violent Soldier) and the TurboGrafx-16 version (Sinistron), mainly concerning difficulty options, checkpoints, and storyline text. While the gameplay is identical in mechanics, Sinistron is generally considered a slightly more restrictive port. Key Differences: Difficulty Settings: Violent Soldier (PC Engine) allows players to select between "Normal" and "Easy" difficulty via a menu accessed by pressing select. This option was removed in Sinistron (TG-16), which locks the game to the "Normal" (equivalent to Japanese hard) setting. Checkpoint Locations: Violent Soldier has checkpoints that are slightly earlier in each level (by a few seconds) compared to Sinistron. Boss AI: Some mid-boss movement patterns are slightly simplified in Violent Soldier, although this has little practical effect on the difficulty. Story/Text: The story differs slightly, with Violent Soldier involving a fleet sent to the source of a supernova, whereas Sinistron focuses on a planet-devouring entity approaching the Solar System. Sinistron removed the ability to choose an easy mode, making it a more rigid experience than the original Japanese release, Violent Soldier. |
