Wow, I’m very wrong. Gaelco had five arcade games after this.
This was the period where Namco went big on publishing games by smaller companies. It didn’t really work out.

๐ neat. Didn't know. I assumed it was a Namco game since it says Namco on the front. But looking at the back small print yup it's Gaelco & Namco Hometek

This was Spanish developer Gaelco’s last arcade game and their one and only home release until the two Evercade arcade collections this year.

Yea that's true. Even with all the shortcuts you just barely make it by a half second. I guess since it's not a free roaming game like Crazy Taxi, they had to make it hard, otherwise people would just win and never come back.
Is what I'm guessing.
It's a true quarter muncher brought home.
I have Crazy Taxi for Xbox 360. I should start playing that again too. I never liked Crazy Taxi 2 or 3 because of the jump mechanic, just kinda ruined it for me. But the original is great. I'm not sure that game can even be beaten, at least not the Arcade mode, you can always strive to do better.

I don't remember its home release. I had ps2 at the time. But I recall playing in the arcade. I took a cruise ship vacation and this was on the ship so I played it alot that week. The only difference is the arcade ver has different characters you pick up and drop off. But after a while it'd get annoying hearing the cheesy things they say, so I'm actually happy the home port left them out.
I really like the game. Crazy Taxi is free roaming, while these routes are locked into place. So its by no means a better game, but with memorization it's not too hard, just takes lots of tries to find all the short cuts.

Hehe. Yup. It's like the arcade except for some reason it doesnt show the passengers your transporting. It was never as popular as Crazy Taxi but when it was new it was at the arcades just the same. So I was happy to notice it at my game shop cheap. Brings me back.

I have always found it hard to complete a route. When this came out people hated it, but.... I think it aged pretty well.

In the game there is only 1 score table that is just maximum points for all courses combined. But it's very challenging to get on that table, since after a course is complete you get less time on the next course than you would from starting that course 1st. Making it very hard to get points added from multiple routes.
Say if I complete Early Bird plus half of Rush Hour, then I suppose that total score should go under the Early Bird section.
In this run I failed to get any points beyond Early Bird except for the bonus stage after.
"I didn't make it on the in-game score table, I never have, but I did get on the fastest run table."
In-game score table for total points is shown at 0:50
.. I think it takes beating "easy" "medium" and "hard" all in a row to make it!
