I like the way its set up so things are fair as possible.
Fyi, on Taito Legends there's more than just Easy Medium and Hard. There's also "Time/Speed" difficulty and "Other Cars" difficulty. Each setting has 5 difficultys to chose. You can make time very easy and the other cars very hard or vice versa. I assume it's like the game's arcade dip-switches.
When you put skill level easy it switches them all to easy, same with normal and hard. Each has their own score table, unless you customize the settings.

And when you play the Continental Circus rom on your Xbox / coin-ops front end or PSP or Retropie or whatever, then it is considered as Arcade emulation. And thus you can post that under MAME (arcade emulation).
When you play the i.e PS2 Taito Legend complete ISO with your pscx emulator on PC, then it's still PS2 but emulation. I don't know Xbox emulators 😉

Sorry, when a game or compilation was officially released on a system, then posting a score should be done on that system. That is, if it is the original disc (or via virtual content drive like an Everdrive) played on that original system. Even if we all know all those Taito, Namco collections are emulated. It's been done on TG and Highscore like that and we keep that same strategy. One of the reasons is, like you say, the fact that we don't know or can proof there are no changes made. Most of the time there are, like Taito put Easy as default. In MAME, it's Normal. So I don't know if even Medium is like Normal. 🚜

I've been informed MAME default is medium settings. Some reason Taito Legend's default is easy.
This has made me question my entire existence.. jk but I'm playing on Medium now. It is noticeably more challenging. I'm at 4.1 mil atm. The record for MAME is 4.3.
Request is in for a Medium spot.
Though it feels just for me since everyone's original Xbox's are prolly fried or turned into an emulation machine by now. Mine is on the brink, I give it rests when it's video scrambles.
But that's interesting to me, because I bet Taito Legends is emulation.. so couldn't I just put it with the MAME ppl? Probably not because there's a chance maybe something slight could be different? For instance the gear shifter graphic is probably only in the Taito Legends version.

Excellent score. But it seems the Normal variation is missing here as that is the default in MAME
