I enjoy pinball anyway, one of my favourite game types, but having other players scores to play against really upped my motivation to play better and has also raised my enjoyment of gaming overall. Something I can thank this website and also HS for (where I started). Humans have an inbuilt desire to achieve goals. Playing with and against 'friends' I don't really know and will never meet in person is a strange experience and yet we all have this positive connection thanks to gaming and being able to share our experiences and achievements. :-)
