Haven't played this a while, but if you choose "alternative control" in menu, then you're using button to throttle? Lotus 2 also has option to use button as throttle.

Never understood why they never used the fire button to throttle. I always hated those 'Test Drive' controls. I believe that with Lotus 3 at least you could play with the keyboard.
