Blokkendoos is a Snake-like action game for the BBC Micro. It was written by Johan Paul Hendriks and published by JBF Software. I think this is the Extended version, which implies a simpler version was also created initially. This version is from 1989. The game is Dutch and the name means something like "Building Blocks" or "Toy Box" which explains the gameplay.
Your character must avoid all the wall sections on each screen. Unfortunately, like in Snake or Tron, he also leaves a trail of blocks behind him. Collison costs a life, but in an unusual twist, you WILL always lose a life on each screen. However, if you score enough points before dying, you will earn another life first, so your game can continue on the next screen.
Yes, this is another take on the Snake genre, but it is played at a very fast pace and it brings something a little different to the mix, with you trying to score enough points on each screen to gain at least one life. A life is gained for every 100 points scored, so even if you can't quite get there, you will feel compelled to try to get close to it so you get the life near the beginning of the next level. This adds a little something to the traditional formula, but it is still just another Snake game at heart.
This run was made on the 31st July 2026 using the Pantheon emulator on PC. There are no skill levels. The final score reached was 491 points.
