Moon Cresta is the official home port of the 1980 Nichibutsu arcade game for the BBC Micro. It was released by Incentive Software in 1986 and was written by Sean Scarff (who also did Red LED on the C64).
This is a straight port of the arcade game, featuring all the levels and all the game mechanics such as docking. Graphically it is a little chunkier, but overall, this is a very nice conversion for the BBC. Your three ships enter battle one at a time starting with the smallest. After a couple of rounds you are given the opportunity to dock. If successful, your combined ships go into battle together, increasing your firepower. After a few more rounds, another chance to dock occurs and if you have managed to keep your first two ships alive, then all three ships together give you the greatest firepower option. If you complete all the rounds, the game starts over again, but at a higher level of difficulty.
Moon Cresta was one of the top arcade games of its time and very popular with players. The home versions were generally very good and the BBC version does the original proud. A recommended play for the fan of fixed shooters.
This run was made on the 21st July 2026 using the Pantheon emulator on PC. There are no selectable skill levels and the final score in this run was 8,720 points.
