Asteroids by Artic Computing is an arcade game for the 48K Oric-1. Released in 1983, it is a port of the popular Atari arcade game. The ZX Spectrum version of the game, known as Cosmic Debris, was written by Jon Ritman, but the author of the Oric version is unknown.

This game is an interesting technical exercise on the Oric for the time. But a good game, no, it is definitely not. Your ship is very large, but fairly manoeuvrable, and the large asteroids are also quite large. Everything works as you would expect, including hyperspace, but I never saw any UFOs. Shooting is a bit hit and, mostly, miss. However, the number of objects moving relatively smoothly on the screen is unusual for the time. I wonder who wrote it? It's a pity it is not a better game, as a lot of the hard work on making the graphics work well on an Oric has been done. The programmer clearly had some skill but was unable to turn it into the game it should have been. Feels like this one missed out on a bit of polish that would have elevated it into a must play. As it stands though, it is just a historical technical curiosity.

This game was played using an Oric-1 48K emulated in Oricutron. The date of play was the 20th July 2026. There are no selectable skill levels. The final score was 2,440 points.
