Thanks.

There is an Acorn Archimedes emulator online with some games if anyone wants to try it (use Chrome, not Edge). It includes some games - if you go Fullscreen you won't be able to get out of it with Alt-Tab - press and hold the Escape key until it restarts.

Blitz is a game inspired by Capcom's Pang. It is for the Acorn Archimedes family of computers, being written in 1991 by Simon Clay and Rob Miller of Clay Mill Productions. The publisher was Arxe Systems. Simon Clay has gone on to have a long career in the games industry and as of 2025 is at Epic Games as the Engine Operations Director. His credits include work on the Gears of War series on XBox One and Playstation 5, and Bubble Bobble on the Sega Saturn.

Back to Blitz, and in this game, one or two players attempt to destroy the bouncing balloons with a variety of devices, typically harpoons with ropes. Once hit, balloons break down into smaller components until totally destroyed (very much like Asteroids). Bursting balloons occasionally drop power-ups, and these include a shield which makes you invulnerable for a short time, the ability to fire two harpoons and so on. There are several of these power ups with different abilities. There is a time limit to battle and screens get increasingly complex and more difficult as you clear them. There are a nice variety of backgrounds, but this was also a problem for me as being colourblind, I struggled to see the smaller balloons against the background, leading to many a death! Nervermind, I was still having fun, but I'll never be a high score achiever on this game!

This run was made on the 16th May 2026 using the Arculator emulator on PC as an A3010. There are no skill levels and the score in this run is 3,256 points.
