Meteo 7 is a Space Invaders clone for the Thomson TO7 / MO5 series of computers. It was released by Infogrames in 1984, and was written by Eric Mottet.
This is pretty much a straight Space Invaders copy, with a redesign to make it a weather themed game. You control an umbrella instead of a laser base in this game and the twist is it is made of sugar. This is not what you need an umbrella to be made of when facing rainclouds and that is exactly what is above you. Instead of invaders, this time you have......the weather. Rainclouds and tornadoes descend down the screen, dropping rain instead of missiles. These are just as deadly as missiles though because of your magical sugar umbrella! Occasionally red thundercloud will cross the top of the screen and serves the same function as the UFO in Space Invaders - Bonus Points!
As mentioned, this game is a reskin of a standard Space Invaders game. The movement of the game is jerky - something not that unusual for earlier Thomson games. For the Space Invaders, sorry clouds, this is not too bad as it fits with the theme of the original step-like movement of the arcade game. The Thundercloud / UFO is also not smooth though which is a shame. On the other hand, your umbrella doesn't move too badly, and I do like the way it descends from your stock of brollies to the bottom of the screen when you lose a life. Sound is relatively sparse, but you do get a little rendition of "Singin' in the Rain" on the title screen.
A final verdict? This is a fairly standard interpretation of Space Invaders in different clothes (a raincoat?). It would have benefitted a lot from better scrolling of the graphics to give a silky smooth game and also some better use of sound. Alas, it does not have either of them.
This run was made on the 7th March 2026. The game looks like it might have skill levels (the wet/dry meter), but I just played at the default setting using a Thomson TO7/70, using the DCMOTO emulator. The final score was 4,110 points.
Time Stamps:
00:30 Title screen.
00:37 Game starts.
02:33 First life lost.
02:42 Second life lost.
02:50 First screen cleared.
03:45 Third life lost.
04:32 Fourth life lost.
04:59 Fifth life lost. Game Over! Final score 4,110 points.
