Arrow is a snake game for the Commodore PET. I haven't been able to confirm the date of release - sources vary from 1978 to 1980 and it appears to have been initially passed around user-groups - a common activity at the time. It was written by Jim Butterfield, a well-known person in the early Commodore community: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jim_But...

In Arrow, you have 60 seconds to move your snake around the screen, collecting the boxes which appear (and disappear). The game ends prematurely if you hit the wall or yourself. After 60 seconds your time is up and your final score is displayed. Boxes are worth the points shown on them.

A classic early program, which went on to inspire many similar types of games on home computers in the years to come.

This run was made on the 1st February 2026 using the Pantheon emulator on PC. There are no adjustable skill levels. The score achieved was 71 points.

Time Stamps:
00:30 Instructions and title screen.
00:41 Game start. Note, the counter stops moving when the points are being collected, so a game is normally longer than 60 seconds.
02:13 Game Over! Final score 71 points.
