Yes, a shame it is so difficult. It would have been a nice alternative to Arkanoid - though the CPC version of Arkanoid is actually very good.

Batty is an Arkanoid-inspired game for the Amstrad CPC range of home computers. It was released by Elite systems on their Encore budget label in 1987. It was written by Mark Crane, who also wrote Timelord for the CPC family.

The game does not attempt to hide its Arkanoid inspiration, where you must destroy all the blocks on each level before moving to the next. You do this by bouncing a ball against them using your bat. Miss a ball and you lose a life. The colouring used and overall design is clearly derived from the original game. The game features similar block power ups to Arkanoid, such as the laser, sticky bat, triple ball and so on. There is also a star shaped object on screen that will deflect the ball in different directions. On the Amstrad, this is best avoided if you can. One difference in this version is that the alien that appears at the top of the screen tries to shoot you, while in Arkanoid they don't. This can make getting to a ball difficult at times.

And while we are talking about 'difficult', that is this games main flaw. This Amstrad version is very difficult. The bat is not the quickest to manoeuvre and is also quite small. The distance from the bat to the lowest layer of bricks is not much, so you will miss a lot more balls in this game than on other bat and ball games. A nice-looking game but it would have been so much better if it was just a little bit easier. I wouldn't say it is bad, you just have to be prepared for the high level of difficulty.
