Svellas is a game from Inufuto, released in August 2025. This version is for the Oric 48K. The program was written by Inufuto as part of a multiplatform project that uses a common format for producing the games and a machine specific interpreter/library for making the main program run on that specific machine.

Svellas is an interesting concept. You need to collect all the stars on each stage to progress to the next one. The stars are located in a number of rooms spread across the screen, many of which are not connected to each other directly. Some of the rooms are mobile - indicated by arrows - and can be moved in the directions shown. This allows access to otherwise unreachable areas.

There are also monsters in the rooms which are deadly to the touch. These make getting all the stars tricky. If you wait too long, they can also turn into ghosts for a short period which can move anywhere on the screen.

This is a fascinating arcade / puzzle game. Working out a path to get all the stars while avoiding the ghosts is not too hard at first, but becomes increasingly tricky as the levels progress. It is also possible to trap yourself by moving a room to a location where you can no longer go back. The ability of the monsters to turn into ghosts also means you cannot stop for too long to plan your next moves safely. There is also a time limit to each stage and the layouts get more complex as the game moves on. It all gets quite hectic after a while, but in a good way. I would recommend this as something refreshingly different in gameplay from the Inufuto library.

This run was made on the 30th August 2025 using the Oricutron emulator on PC. There are no adjustable skill levels and the final score was 7,800.
