Astro Invader is a port of the Konami / Stern arcade game of the same name. The arcade machine was first released in Japan in 1979 and the Arcadia 2001 home release in 1982.
The game is an advance on the Space Invaders concept. A mothership at the top of the screen drops aliens into racks. If the racks are allowed to fill up, the next alien going in at the top pushes the bottom one out which then descends to ground level and explodes. If you are near the explosion, you will be killed. Occasional UFO's also descend and these must be destroyed or you lose a life when they reach the ground. Destroying all the aliens in a wave results a new design that is faster than the one before.
This is an intense and noisy arcade game. You can fire at a high rate and you will need to. There are a lot of aliens to destroy and getting to the deadly UFO's in time can be quite tricky. Despite the games simplicity, the core values of the action can be quite appealing.
