Light Cycle is a 1983 Snake-type game released by PSS. It was written by Anthony Clarke who also wrote Hopper for PSS and was later involved with the C64 conversions of Frak! and Monty on the Run.

There is no surprise that this game was inspired by the Light Cycle game in the movie Tron. The cover is a straight lift of the bike from the film. In the single player game, you control a light bike vs a computer operated light bike, with both of you trying to box the other in. You have controls for each cardinal direction and also a fifth button for travelling faster. Each game consists of five lives for each player and the game ends when one player runs out of lives. The winner scores points based on the length of the round - the longer the round lasted, the more points are scored.

The game really comes alive in two player mode. Here, both bikes are controlled by humans, one on each side of the keyboard. This is much more fun than playing against the computer!

Although the graphics are not spectacular, they are smooth and suitable for the type of game being played, with a very nice tiny explosion when one bike crashes. Nine speed levels from fast to slow are also offered.

This game was played using the Oricutron emulator on PC. The date of play was the 8th December 2024. A single player game was selected and the speed chosen was 5 (Medium). The final score was 2,273 points.
