Commando is a 1985 vertically scrolling run-and-gun arcade game by Capcom. It is being played here as part of the Capcom Arcade Stadium on PC. This was another of Capcom's very popular arcade games. The game was ported to many formats of computer and console at the time.

In Commando, your protagonist is Super Joe, on a mission to single-handedly destroy the enemy, armed only with his machine gun and a limited supply of grenades. Occasionally, POWs can be rescued from their captors for bonus points. At the end of each level a large door sends forth a number of enemies - when they are defeated, the level ends.

Commando is actually quite simple in gameplay, but very frantic and I always found it quite difficult. Just one hit from the hard to see bullets will take one of your lives - and that happens a lot. It pays to keep moving forward, otherwise you can easily get hemmed in at the bottom of the screen. Popular at the time, I'm not sure it holds up as well today - but to me, it will always be one of the classic arcade games, even though I'm rubbish at it.

This run was made using Capcom Arcade Stadium on PC (Steam). The date of play was the 1st December 2024. The final score was 36,900 points.
