Play with default settings unless otherwise specified. If the ROM set is not mentioned, play the parent ROM. No use of trainers, cheats, saved game files, emulator save states or other emulator advantages. No use of code modifications that give the player an advantage over other players. 1 player only. No continues. In-game/internal autofire is only allowed if a game has it (enabled through hard or soft DIPs). External/MAME/cheat-based autofire is not allowed. It is discouraged and may lead to voters not accepting your score to - excessively point farm - use glitches or other game exploits You can use any emulator you want (Retropie, rain, neo geo, Coinops, Antstream, handhelds,...). If specific emulators or versions are restricted, it will be mentioned in the Specific rules. For Top 3 we encourage (but NOT mandatory) to provide: a) A full video with DIP Switches to be shown in the video (at the start or at the end of your performance). If DIP Switches are not available, Service Menu should be used instead (at the start of your performance). If no difficulty settings is available on your game, you still have to show either DIP switches or service mode showing this (if not mentioned in the specific rules). OR b) An INP file. Please state your MAME version in the comments. And add an URL where the voter can download your .inp. (We currently have no way to store those files on the server, but it is on the roadmap). For INPs: o We encourage to also show the DIPs during your video play. o Delete NVRAM before recording/viewing. Many arcade games that MAME emulates save some information (like high scores) in non-volatile ram (NVRAM), which by default MAME saves in the nvram subfolder. For some games (not all) the RNG is affected by NVRAM, so an .inp file recorded with non-empty nvram won't replay correctly on anyone else's system. o To record INP file, you require Wolfmame: You can download it here : https://github.com/mahlemiut/wolfmame/releases (or on MARP). o Record one run gameplay when using INP. |

as long as your wheel is recognized as a directX device, you should be able to remap the controls on it with MAME, of course, some exotic wheels might not work, I think a list should be available somewhere... I can go for a quick search if you want to, but you should be able to find this info without a problem as MAME is well documented and have a large users base.
In my case, with my Logitech G27, all buttons, the shifters, pedals and wheel works fine and are recognized by MAME. I only had to go for some tweaking in Logitech driver and create a profile for MAME because by default, MAME is using the whole capacity of curve of the wheel, and the G27 can do 720° which is too much. I had to tweak this value to 120° as a max, 90° seems to work better but lack precision in some games. Note that this 120° is just a personal preference, some like 60° or even 45°, lacks precision but less work to do with your arms. I don't remember how arcade games are set up but I believe it's less than 100°. Still I don't use it since I moved because my "gaming room" is a total mess and also serve as computer room for my girlfriend. I plan to move everything in there to make a "gaming room" only and finally be able to have a place so my old consoles and computers are installed so that I don't have to get everything out of the box each time I want to play an old system.
Yes, my mood is currently very far down, like every year in august, for personal reasons (death anniversary of a close relative which, for some reasons, can't let go due to the way she died) and everything that happened on lvlup these last weeks add up to this, I'll be in better mood in one or two weeks, like always, and hope I'll be able to make things better with aca and all the people I managed to get angry towards me, like every year in august :|
I prefer to apologize as I'm under high medication right now, sometimes I don't even know what I'm saying or doing, please don't pay too much attention to what I'm saying, I'm in zombie mode.

I saw a video on TwinGalaxies where I'm sure the player was using a wheel as he managed to take the curves a lot smoother and faster than I ever could with the gamepad. I had no issues with the default control settings and thought the game played just fine. But yeah, a wheel would be cool for racing games, though reading how much trouble people have getting their wheels working with games is somewhat off-putting.

this is a game where you absolutely need to use an analog controller, and spend many time setting up the analog controls in MAME to get the "optimal" drivability (is it even a word ?) as the default settings are usually unplayable. It's generally worth it as once you find the optimal settings for your controller, you can improve your score dramatically. I think you can find those settings online for the most common controllers (XBOX, PS3/PS4, logitech)
The best option is to buy a driving wheel (I have a G27) and calibrate it in the game settings. Best experience ever as you're almost on the cabinet settings.
