Pacman Begins is an ultra-stripped down Pacman game released in 2024 by Allan Turvey (happycodingzx). It is a reaction game for the 48K ZX Spectrum.
The game has only one button, which changes the direction of Pacman. There is only one short section of maze - a straight line with tunnels at either end. Pacman can eat dots and treasures for points and also a power pill to be able to eat the ghosts (or ghost as there is only one appearing at a time).
So, is this ultra cut-down version of Pacman any good? Yes! As riduculous as it seems at first glance, cutting the core of the arcade game down to its purist and simplist essence is a minimalist masterpiece.
One button, good graphics, addictive gameplay and great fun.
This run was made using the EightyOne emulator on PC, on the 27th May 2024. There are no skill levels and the final score was 13,750 points.
