Space Armor is a game for the Sega SG-1000 released in 1984 by Tsukuda Original. It is similar in many ways to the arcade game Xevious, as you can shoot at aerial targets and bomb ground based ones.

This is not a great game. The scrolling of the landscape is very jerky, although your ship and the enemy ships scroll smoothly. This effect is quite jarring. The background is also very multicoloured and I found it difficult to pick out many of the enemies against this mess of colours. This is particularly true of incoming enemy fire. I often died for no obvious reason, but when looking back at the footage afterwards, realised the enemy bullet had been almost impossible to see. Sound is very basic and the "tune" is very annoying, especially as it keeps popping in and out as you fire.

The difficulty of the game is both too easy and too hard. That is quite an achievement! The game is, overall, very easy and quickly becomes repetitive - it is more a test of your endurance than your skill. On the other hand, the background masking enemy missiles can make the game very difficult at times. There is no middle ground here! There is also not enough variety to keep you interested. This is not a game I can recommend unless you are curious or just want to try every game in the SG-1000 library.

If the landscape scrolling had been smoother, the colours had been a little more carefully chosen and the enemy attack patterns mixed up a little more, this game could have been better, but I don't think it could ever be polished into a masterpiece.

This run was made on the 6th January 2024, using Kega Fusion v3.64. There are no adjustable skill levels and the score reached was 4,688,600 points, an improvement of my previous best of 1,417,200 thanks to some tips from Wilson Oyama who has achieved a maxout on this game ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JHrj-4f19Lw&t=0s ).
