Damper is an Amidar-clone for the ZX81 16K from Quicksilva. It appeared on a two-pack compilation tape called Damper / Glooper which featured this game and a Pac-man clone. Both games were written by M.P. Crane.

In the Amidar / Painter style, you have to travel the lines and fill in all the dots with solid lines. You also have to avoid the various enemies, which don't chase you but follow a programmed path. If you clear a screen, you get a bonus screen where you have a few seconds to work out which path to take to reach the money at the bottom - press a key before the time runs out and see if you guessed correctly! Then it is back to the first screen again, but with extra enemies.

The game is actually quite a nice version of the arcade original for the ZX 81. Glooper is a reasonably good Pac-man clone too, so at £4.95, this tape represented good value for money at the time, considering the abilities of the ZX 81.

This game was played on the 5th May 2024 using the Pantheon emulator on PC. There are no adjustable skill levels and the score achieved was 45,220 points.
