Apple Catcher is a 2014 homebrew game by Kiwi. It is for the Mattel Intellivision and is built using IntyBASIC.
A simple game, you control a basket and have to catch dropping apples. Collect 10 and a bonus is awarded. You then move to a higher skill level of greater difficulty. There are also snakes which sometimes drop and these must be avoided as you will lose all apples in your basket if you catch one. If you have no apples in your basket, then you will lose one of your three lives.
The game is similar to Activision's 1981 classic Kaboom! in its game mechanic. Graphics are simple, but suitable, as is the gameplay. The basket is quite controllable, so there are no issues there. This reminded me of magazine type-in programs in the eighties, though this is of a higher standard. Looks like this was a fun little project for the author to experiment with IntyBASIC.
This run was made on the 29h March 2024 using the Pantheon emulator on PC. There are no skill levels and the final score reached was 474 points.
Time stamps:
00:30 Title screen.
00:35 Game start.
00:52 First level complete - I won't list the others.
03:18 Extra life awarded.
05:39 First life lost.
06:14 Second life lost.
06:21 Third life lost.
06:30 Fourth life lost. Game Over! Final Score 474 points.
