Play on any PAL emulator or FPGA. Includes 'The C64' Mini and Maxi. Play with default settings unless otherwise specified. No use of trainers, cheats, saved game files, auto-fire (when not default present in-game), emulator save states, or other emulator advantages. No use of code modifications that give the player an advantage over other players. 1 player only. No continues. It is discouraged and may lead to voters not accepting your score to: - excessively point farm - use glitches or other game exploits Game must be shown to be played with PAL emulation enabled by showing the settings or at least having 50 fps. "The C64" owners take care of your cjm files, or file flags, or select the right model on your maxi. |

Must be played on the European version (released by US Gold). This version is identified by not having a course selection screen. Courses are normally loaded by selecting them from the tape or disk manually, unless a cracktro works around this limitation. This version also has no yellow color in the player's car / passengers sprites (unlike the US version). European version normally also doesn't offer a map overview with distance driven at game over, while the US version does. (although beware that the Lurid & Tricycle hack ported this feature from the US release over to the European release) Be careful of the following: It can happen during game play that the game skips Stage 4 or awards you a double bonus when finalizing the Stage 5 (end of game bonus). All these runs, no matter if done on purpose or by accident, will be disqualified (even after they have been accepted by voters). It can also happen that you don't get enough bonus at the end of Stage 5. You are allowed to add the correct amount of bonus to your final score when this happens (see i.e. Stevengton score EMU PAL Course A). SO VIDEO GAMEPLAY IS MANDATORY. Do not play this on the Lurid & Tricycle hack, because this hack has some oddities that other versions do not suffer from. This version can be identified by having 8 digits in the score (both in game and on the game over leaderboard). This should be 7 digits always. |

Emulation checked, Route A selected, gameplay checked, score checked (I think I understand the bug issue and manual score correction).

Oh crap, what a mess! I played US-release which has been cracked by Nostalgia. Their releases usually are best...

No idea about a bug free version, but there's another problem.
I did 2 runs of fairly similar quality in a row: with music I had 5 seconds left in the end, without I had 20 seconds left. So playing with music on somehow affects the time. The Lurid & Tricycle version mentioned this and that their version fixes it, but I never managed to get into the game to try it out.

Oh wow. Now I see it too. And I thought we (Cmdr and I) had cleaned it up good after noticing the differences with pal and us versions. I'll look at it tomorrow. Add your remark to the specific rules and then remove scores where it played as an advantage (including mine). Submissions that should have more points, I can't adapt, so they will stay.
Do you know if there exists a complete bug free version?
I had this game back then and I never noticed this ,🤓

The US version gives only 100k for each second. Looking at your course A video, you finish with 13 seconds left and get 1.3 million bonus. TWICE! So your score goes from 1.25 to 3.85 with the double bonus.

The C64 version of Out Run has 2 major scoring bugs.
1. It's incapable of handling 2-digit score bonuses - while 8 seconds left in the end will give you 8 million bonus points, 14 seconds will give just 4 million and 21 will give just 1 million. Myrryspeikko's YouTube video shows him getting no bonus points at all for having 10 seconds left.
2. Occasionally it gives the bonus twice: GTi's Route A run had 3 seconds left and got the 3 million bonus two times.
I finished Route A with 21 seconds left and received one million point bonus. Twice, so I experienced both of the bugs.
I've added 19 million points to my score (21 minus the 1+1 million it gave me).
If this is not ok then might as well remove C64's Out Run scores as it's too messed up.
