Dragonfire is an action-arcade game for the VIC-20 from Imagic. It was released in 1983 and is an 8K cartridge. I'm not 100% sure who the author is, but I have seen at least one reference to Tim Yu.

The game is a conversion of the Atari 2600 version which was released in 1982. You have to recover the King's treasure from various castles guarded by dragons. It's a two-screen game, with the first requiring the player to cross a castle drawbridge, while jumping or ducking fireballs. Manage this (which can be surprisingly hard at times) and you move to screen two, the castle itself. Here you have to collect all the treasures before escaping out the door. At the same time a dragon is launching deadly fireballs at you. If you escape, you get to do it all again at another castle at a faster pace.

The graphics are good and the movement smooth, and as you would expect it has the Imagic polish. Sound is perfectly adeqaute and your character controls well. A decent, if a little repetitive, arcade game.

This run was made on the 25th Febrauary 2024, using the Pantheon emulator on PC. There are no skill levels and the score reached was 2,160 points.
