Millipede is a conversion of the arcade game Centipede for the Commodore PET computers. It was released by On Line Software in 1982.
This is quite a reasonable arcade game for the PET - you didn't get that many to choose from. It features all the main features from the game - a descending multi-legged-multi-segmented creature that can split, the spider in the bottom section, descending fleas and an enormous bug that slowly crosses the screen poisoning the mushrooms and taking the place of the snail in the original game.
A counter at bottom left ticks down to zero. If it reached zero, any remaining Millipede segments turn hollow and become indestructible objects that get in your way. A new Millipede is then spawned. The only way they can be removed is for the spider to pass over them.
Action is pretty fluid and this is one of the better arcade games I've seen on the PET. One thing to be aware of - you only get one life!
This run was made on the 2nd February 2024, using the VICE emulator at 60fps on PC. The score reached was 1,658 points. There are no adjustable skill levels.
Time stamps:
00:30 End of previous game.
00:33 Game start.
00:44 First appearance of a flea.
00:53 First appearance of the mushroom-poisoning monstrosity.
01:10 First appearance of a spider.
02:26 Timer reaches zero and the last remaining segment becomes an indestructible block.
02:55 Killed by spider. Game Over! Final score 1,658 points.
