Haunted House is a pinball table released by Gottlieb in 1982. Created by John Osborne, 6,385 tables were produced. It is noticeable as the first pinball game to feature three separate playfields. These are the main playfield, the attic and the cellar.
There are no prizes for guessing that the theme of the table revolves around a Haunted House. The three playfields make for a different experience than most tables. The main playfield is relatively open, with four flippers at the bottom. There are various ways to access the attic and cellar, which are relatively safe areas to accumulate points and bonuses. The cellar is notable in that the gameplay is reversed; a feature designed to addle the brain of any normal pinball player.
It may take a while to get into the hang of this table, but once you do it is quite engaging and longer plays open up to you. The sound is so reminiscent of the era and plays Bach's Toccata and Fugue in D Minor to good effect. Overall, this is an interesting table, that I feel deserves a little more attention than it generally gets.
The date of play was the 21st December 2023. The score achieved was 1,103,260 points.
