Clean Sweep is a variation of the Pac-man genre, resembling Lock 'n' Chase more than Pac-man. It was produced by GCE in 1982. Oddly, you play the roll of a vacuum cleaner, sucking up bank notes that have been spilled on the floor of a bank by robbers who have just blown up the vault. You travel down the corridors sucking up the notes until your cleaner is full, then you deposit them in the central vault. Now that your bag is empty, you can go out and collect more notes until the screen is cleared.

The bank robbers also stalk the corridors (strange looking criminals!) and if they touch you, you lose a life. The four rooms in the corners of the maze can be entered and each will give you a brief period where you become 'supercharged' and can defeat the robbers - these rooms ae the equivalent of Pac-man's power pills. The maze also features wrap around tunnels - another feature from Pac-man.

Points are gained for collecting bank notes, depositing them in the vault and for catching robbers. An extra life is awarded at 10,000 points.

This is a decent enough variation of Pac-man for the Vectrex. On the negative side, the game's pace is quite sedate and I did find it a little difficult to control precisely at times. Having to empty your vacuum cleaner periodically before you can pick up any more notes is quite an interesting game mechanic.

This run was made using Retroarch 1.9.9 with the VecX core on PC running at 50 fps. The date of play was the 23rd September 2023. Game 1 was played, which is the normal game - there is a Game 2, where the maze walls are invisible. The score reached was 15,000 points.
