Well, things (at least this technological part) are shitty but we still were in dialup in 2010 sooo, it's a bit better now. Even if it's not perfect.
We learnt to be patient with everything we do online, and as I'm not interested in stream media (netflix & co) it's not really bothering us.
We use a satellite dish to be able to watch TV (which costs an arm per month) and we don't have smartphone as there is no data roaming where we are living.
Still, life is peaceful here, we got no noisy neighbours (only 6 houses), so we don't complain, as this is what we were seeking for.
Let's hope the mayor see how useful fiber internet can be and change his plans for the future, for now, he's trying to do things so our village don't die, so there is not much money to do fiber works now, we'll see !

Thanks for your detailed story, now I understand it's not always like as we see from the side...
I live in southern part of Belgrade(Serbia) but we have decent internet speed of 150Mbs(download) / 15Mbs(upload) and I am quite satisfied with that... But even you live in countryside of France it's still so advanced country and it's a shame to hear from you that story...

We have only old adsl (256kbps max DL/80/100kbps UP, switching to 512kbps DL when the planets are correctly aligned lol)
no 3G either, and no TV by roof antenna. We live at 15km from a medium city which has fiber and 5G (80k inhabitants) but nothing is done here because "not enough customers", so yeah, stuck with that until someone decide otherwise (maybe never as they already planned to fund satellite internet, which will be as crappy as my actual internet, but Orange (owner of the telephone lines) decided to remove ground lines between 2025/2030...)
Apart big and medium cities, nobody has access to fiber or either 4G/5G in the country ^^ That's how it is, foreigners can't see that as they mainly come to visit big cities ;)
