I never had a chance to play it on a real arcade machine, but after all that's the point of ALL arcade machines to earn as lot money as posiblle!!! Arcade attendants used to set most machines to minimum lives and more difficulty level just to earn more money in small amount of time!!! For 1987. it's quite impressive racing F1 game and a worthy successor of "Pole Position", 8/10 by my modest opinion...
The most important thing in this game is to learn all tracks by heart and make just small left-right movements otherwise you will crash into road sign and lost valuable time!!!

I played the game for real back in the arcade, but I was useless at it and did not want to spend more money in it. But playing it in Antstream gives me enough goes to get better with the controls. It's a fun game after a few goes.

This is so underrated game!!! Most people doesn't like it at all but for me is one of the best racing game ever on any port!!!!

Even in my country I wouldn't even attempt to find this game. I've never seen one before. Plus 3D glasses type stuff tends to give me a headache even if it's a nice gimmic for a short while.

Well, the only joystick I own is my gamepad and that's the one I made all those scores with...
I owned X-Arcade Joystick few years ago but I have sold it some time ago...
Arcade version include "rain fall" feature that makes this version much more harder and tricky, because during the raIn track became much more slipery, and it's recommended to change your tires(which takes you 5-6 valuable seconds)....
Unfortunately I never owned XBOX console and never tried "Continental Circus" on that port, but I supose it looks faithful to the original version! Thanks for the info about original Arcade machine with 3D glasses feature, unfortunately I doubt I can find in my country this original arcade machine, we don't have any regular Arcade Shops(if that's right word) but if I have chance to play it I would gladly try it!!!

My only tip for the arcade version would be to use an analog thumbstick for driving. Makes it much smoother, and closer to the arcade steering wheel. The track can be slippery at full speed, especially when it rains 🌧 easy to spin out if you turn too quick, but pitting for the rain tires does get the grip back.

Fun fact, did you know in the arcade this game used 3D glasses? The arcade machine has 3D glasses hanging above the player to use. Would be interesting to try the actual machine with that feature :)
