Maze Invaders is an unreleased 1981 game from Atari. It was written by Ed Logg (Asteroids, Centipede and Gauntlet amongst other). I don't know why it was not released, but the most likely reason was poor reception in field tests. This was a common fate back in the late 70s and early 80s when machines were so expensive. If the test machines failed to pick up enough coins from punters, a production run would often not go ahead.
Fortunately the code has survived and the game is now available to play.
This run was played using the Steam version of Atari 50: The Anniversary Celebration on PC. The date of play was the 30th April 2023. The final score was 31,232 points.
Atari 50: The Anniversary Celebration is just that, a celebration of 50 years of Atari. Although there have been many Atari game compilations over the years, this one is the best yet, lovingly put together with many documents and features within it. It's like visiting an interactive museum.
