Black Widow is one of the lesser known (relatively) Atari arcade machines. It was released (hatched?) in 1982 and features Atari's characteristic vector graphics system. It was written by Bruce Merritt.

In this shooter you control a spider on a web and must destroy other insects of varying types and abilities. Collect any $ symbols left behind for points. It's all very hectic in the way you would expect from an Atari arcade machine. I found the game a little tricky to control on PC as the original game features two control sticks - one to move and one to fire. To get the best out of this game you are recommended to use a twin-stick style controller. I used the keyboard (WASD on left hand, cursor keys on right).

This run was played using the Steam version of Atari 50: The Anniversary Celebration on PC. The date of play was the 23rd April 2023. The final score was 14,400 points.

Atari 50: The Anniversary Celebration is just that, a celebration of 50 years of Atari. Although there have been many Atari game compilations over the years, this one is the best yet, lovingly put together with many documents and features within it. It's like visiting an interactive museum.
