Super Breakout is the 1978 follow up to 1976s Breakout. The game builds on the original by featuring three selectable new modes - Double Bats, Cavity and Progressive. It was programmed by Ed Rotberg.
The three modes work as follows:
Double - you have control of two bats and are served two balls, otherwise the game is very like the original Breakout.
Cavity - the game features two caves in the wall containing a ball. Once breached, the balls are released and can be kept in play to destroy the wall faster.
Progressive - the wall marches endless down the screen, restricting your space to play.
This run was played using the Steam version of Atari 50: The Anniversary Celebration on PC. The date of play was the 10th April 2023. The game mode is Progressive and the final score was 120 points.
Atari 50: The Anniversary Celebration is just that, a celebration of 50 years of Atari. Although there have been many Atari game compilations over the years, this one is the best yet, lovingly put together with many documents and features within it. It's like visiting an interactive museum.
