Gravitar is a 1982 arcade game from Atari. It was created by Mike Hally (arcade Star Wars) and Rich Adam. You control a spaceship similar to the one is Asteroids and with similar controls. In this game though, gravity is an important factor and much more of a danger than the enemy craft.

Your mission is to destroy all of the gun turrets on the planets and also destroy a reactor. Each level consists of a solar system with a star present. This star exerts gravity so you'll need to use thrust to get to the planets. Alien craft also try to stop you. Once at a planet, you try to destroy the turrets while also fighting alien ships. Gravity pulls you to the ground so there is a lot to keep an eye on! Blue boxes can also be collected to top up your fuel - run out of fuel and it is instant game over.

The game is challenging, but good fun if you can crack the mechanic. Gameplay has elements from both Asteroids and Lunar Lander.

This run was played using the Steam version of Atari Vault on PC. The date of play was the 7th April 2023. The final score was 6,650.
