Tempest needs no introduction, surely? It is a 1981 release from Atari. It was written by Dave Theurer (who also wrote Missile Command).

The aim of the game is to destroy the various 'things' that are climbing from the distance towards you along the grid. These things have various attack types and attributes. It's all very frantic and also quite satisfying to clear a level. You are warped to the next level after completing each one - look out for any left-over spikes!

This run was played using the Steam version of Atari Vault on PC. The date of play was the 13th February 2021.
