Yes it's the same feeling with me very strange/odd feeling without canned laughter in any OFAH episode...
Sometimes it is really no need for canned laughter, it seems unnecessary. In one of our our local TV show (family comedy sitcom) I watched the first couple of episodes starts with canned laughter... But it didn't fit with that series at all and they remove canned laughter from the later episodes... But OFAH is TV Show that is unimaginable without audience/canned laughter in background... Watching (for instance) "Royal Flush" without canned laughter seems so odd and strange to me, waiting for that laughter during every funny scene but there is no any!!! Back to fact about Lennard Pearce death; I think that Lennard Pearce(Grandad) haven't met Uncle Albert at all, everything happened suddenly and they had to find a replacement for Grandad in order to finish the episode... David Jason stated somewhere that he was very shaken after Lennard's death and that he considered him a relative... Now I found on the net that Lennard Pearce died on 15th Dec 1984. and Buster Merryfield steps into crew of OFAH in January 1985, so they probably haven't even met....
Also I've read somewhere that for Buster the greatest reward of all was that people met him while riding public transport and said: "there's Uncle Albert!"... A very humble and pleasant man, he spent over 40 years working as a bank clerk and then happened OFAH!!! The rest is history!!!! Cheers mate!!!

I have to correct myself, after all, Lennard Pearce and Buster Merryfield met while Lennard was still alive... I found the following information about Buster Merryfield in Wikipedia:
Nine months earlier in March 1984, Merryfield and Pearce had costarred in two episodes of a Shroud for a Nightingale.

Indeed, most 1980's sit-coms are filmed with standard low quality equipment.
Tell me. When you saw those Christmas specials without canned laughter, did you find it very un-funny? It really helps make it more fun. Our minds are so malleable!

Few days ago I downloaded BlueRay-Rip of 5 OFAH Specials!!! They look fantastic!!! If you like to have it I can post you a link to download it!!It was released on BlueRay recently and these only 5 episode of OFAH released on BR ever!!! I have read somwhere on the net that most of early episodes of OFAH filmed in some old fashioned filming standard and that would be useless to convert/remaster them into BR format, what a shame for that!!!
