Digger is a 1983 arcade game for the IBM PC, released by Windmill Software. It was written by Rob Sleath.

The aim of the game is for your Digger to collect gems and gold from the mine. The mine is infested by Nobbins and Hobbins. You can shoot these, but your weapon takes a while to recharge. You can also destroy them by dropping the bags of gold on them or collecting the bonus cherry which functions like a Pac-Man power pill, allowing to destroy the bad guys just by touching them for a short time. If the bags fall far enough, they split open revealing gold nuggets you can collect for extra points. The level ends when all diamonds are collected, or all bad guys are destroyed. There are eight screens in all and if you get that far they loop back to level 6. The game has a familiar feel as it is a blend of Dig Dug, Mr Do! and Pac-man.

CGA graphics limit the game to four colours from a limited set of palettes.
Gameplay is smooth and nicely animated for the time. sound for the PC speaker is actually quite impressive. All in all, a well programmed game that was popular in its day. And today? Yes, it is still worth playing and still fun. The game has left enough happy memories with players that remakes have been made. Digger Remastered is a PC version released by Andrew Jenner in 1998. Alawar Entertainment released another updated version in 2000, called Millenium Digger. Other homebrew versions have been written for machines as diverse as the Colecovision and the Wii.
