I finished it on my 3rd attempt. The only level I didn't like and struggle on was the underwater one

Wow you have the feel for it then. I've played alot more than that. Though it's been a long time since I've played regularly.
I'm also use to using continues, so playing without continues steps up the challenge.

well, this is my third time playing Sonic myself. I played once just to see what was this game without going further than first boss, then I played it on switch sega genesis compilation and now the run I posted yesterday. So I can only improve as I don't know the game very well yet. I die a lot ^^

cool, all interesting to me.
Glad you beat my score, ill have at it again sometime. : )
I like the original Sonic alot. The absence of an instant spin dash forces you to keep the momentum on your own. Plus like Sonic CD alot of the stages aren't about speed but rather about clever platforming. To me Sonic CD is actually the true sequel to this game. Sonic 2 was made by a different team in America, as where Sonic CD was made by the original team in Japan. Sonic 2 was released before Sonic CD but they were in production at the same time each on the other side of earth.

I came along this score randomly. It's not "more storage" but bank switch was more common, and RAM prices was going down as videogame & computer industry rises, so for manufacturer it was a clever choice to make compilations with top seller games for the price of one. People who haven't the full compilation can have them all on one cartridge, and most of the time it worked just fine. It's not for nothing you can find those arcade & atari compilations on almost every system.
Plus, take note that not every game was 100% the size of a unit of ROM memory (512K), if the game was bigger than that, they use several ROM chip and when the game need to access data on ROM bank 2, the console unload the bank 1 and load bank 2, there is a maximum of ROM bank that can be adressed though, I think it's 4x1MB or 8x512K, can't remember that info. SNES is around the same limitations, 4MB max. but some games are bigger, using some tricks or hacks, I don't know how they managed to do it.

👍 forsure.
I have 6-Pak as well as Triple Score.
Which are 2 compilation games that came out in the US.
Triple Score is the same as Mega Games which came to Europe, along with Mega Games II and Mega Games III.
I just looked it up, Sega had lots of compilations, even a Mega Games 10 !
But yea I would imagen they all should be the same as their individual cartridges gameplay wise.
The more time that passed the more storage on the cartridges to fit more games in 1.

yeah, i think the differences aren't so big, it was just curiosity about this pak because i didn't find this rom on my romset. (but now, i have it)
thanks !
thanks !

Thanks :) i tried the 6-pak and it looks like the Sonic is the REV01. i think that's logic because this pak was release long time after...
Btw, i didn't find so much informations about this pak, if there's any differences, and what roms versions of the games they used but 2 links about it :
(Revenge of Shinobi Differences
The intro title in Revenge of Shinobi is a little bit different from the original version. Some of the text has been changed, like the copyright info, and the timing of a couple of sound effects.)

i always show a pic and video of the cart im using.
Will list it from now on too.
all of my plays regarding these 6 games has been the Sega 6 pak. as well as many other games on the site. I wasnt sure about if it needed its own variation, i had a brief discussion on discord "sorry i dont remember who was there" but it was thought they would count as their original games and wouldnt need a variation. so i went with that.
plus ive noticed many other plays regaurding these 6 games with ppl using the 6 pak cart. so if theres an issue we'll have to hunt them down and get corrected. But i dont know why the roms would be any different from the actual games in this case.
There are multiple versions of Shinobi Revenge but they are all in the same catagory as well. The 6-Pak uses the latest release.

Genesis 6-pak. Also know as Sega 6-Pak.
before playing i asked on discord what peoples opinion was about using the 6 pak. it was decided the roms are identical and doesnt need its own variation. there are alot of plays on the site using 6 pak without listing it. but yes its the Genesis 6-Pak cart.
i can understand that the Sega CD genesis classics collection has its own variation because the roms are actually different with new sounds added and who knows what else. but the 6-pak seems to be the same as someone using a multi rom cart, which is also allowed for original hardware plays
Edit: thx 4 the vote. If needs new category or variation just lmk
