Thanks for the infos!

Personally I didn't care for the extra screens and this kind of version is much more my cup of tea!

Sagaia, or Darius II in Japan, is unsurprisingly the follow up to Darius. Originally released in arcades by Taito, it's main feature was that it featured two side-by-side screens to create a large playfield (although three screen versions also exist). This is not something that the Master System can replicate! This is something of a downgrade, even for the arcade machine, as the original Darius featured three screens.

Critics of the arcade machine generally felt that Sagaia was just "more of the same" and didn't bring anything new to the Darius formula, but despite that was a well done game. The Master System port is obviously inferior to both the arcade version and the Megadrive/Genesis version. Despite some flickery sprites due to the hardware limitations, it is actually a good conversion by the machines standards. It divided opinion in magazine reviews of the time, but I think that it is a worthy game for the Master System for horizontal shooter fans, especially as the original Darius was never ported to the console.

The game features three skill levels and two characters to choose from. Proco Jr. starts with no power ups, while Tiat Young starts with some of the power ups already activated, making for an easier game. Level wise, you start off at the Sun and have to planet hop to Jupiter.

I'm not great at these sorts of games, but I had fun with this one, even though I didn't get very far.

The video features three runs featuring Proco Jr. The runs are made at Easy, Normal and Hard skill levels. Final scores were as follows:

Easy = 225,000 points.
Normal = 93,800 points.
Hard = 57,000 points.

These runs were made using Kega Fusion 3.64 on PC running at 60 fps. The date was 3rd June 2022.
