General Rules: Play with default settings unless otherwise specified. No use of trainers, cheats, saved game files, auto-fire (when not default present in-game), emulator save states, or other emulator advantages. No use of code modifications that give the player an advantage over other players. 1 player only. No continues.

Due to the unusual placement of some keys on the Acorn Atom keyboard, it is acceptable to redefine the keys used under emulation.

It is discouraged and may lead to voters not accepting your score to
- excessively point farm
- use glitches or other game exploits
Specific Rules: Play the game in 1 player mode with default settings.

Jet Set Willy needs no introduction, surely? It is a flick screen platform game originally written for the ZX Spectrum in 1984 by Matthew Smith and released by Software Projects. A version for the Acorn Electron was released in 1986 by Tynesoft that was written by Chris Robson (Jet Set Willy 2 and Mouse Trap). In December 2015, Kees van Oss ported this version to the Acorn Atom. The game will require an upgraded Atom with 32K RAM and 6K of video RAM.

In Jet Set Willy, Miner Willy, now rich after his exploits in Manic Miner, has had a massive party in his new mansion. All he wants to do is go to bed, but his housekeeper, Maria, won't let him until he collects up all the flashing items and makes the house more presentable - isn't that what he pays her for?? So begins an adventure where Willy must travel all the rooms of his mansion collecting the items required. This is no easy task as the house is full of all sorts of strange and deadly......things.

The game is very much like Manic Miner at first glance, but here you are free to travel the entire set of screens in any way you can. Just like in the previous game, Willy can move left, right and jump. The game is even more requiring of pixel perfect movement and timing than its predecessor. It's easy to get started, but not easy to get far. You'll need to learn this game to do well, but we had plenty of time as kids in the eighties to do that. Who has that sort of free time in 2025? The most dreaded feature is that it is possible to get into a death-loop if you die in certain places on certain levels. You may have eight lives at the start, but this feature can wipe them all out very quickly.

The Atom version of the game is monochrome, as was the Electron version - though the Electron changed the colour palette for each screen. The Electron game featured the same screen resolution as one of the Atom modes, so the graphics and gameplay have been able to be ported over exactly. It plays well, having the same positives and negatives as the Electron version. To get the best out of the game though, you will need to spend some time with it and learn its secrets and tricks.

This run was made on the 3rd November 2025. There are no skill levels and the final score was 10 items collected.
