I remember this on the college PC's back when I was doing my degree oh so many years ago (very early 90's). They were IBM XT's, quite old for the time. They ran this though!

Fun looking game, never seen it before. I like the disintegration effect when enemies are hit. Also laughed at the wee men making a human pyramid in order to take out your gun 😂

Paratrooper is a 1982 arcade game for the IBM PC, released by Orion Software. It was written by Greg Kuperberg, who based it on the 1981 Apple II game Sabotage by Mark Allen.

The aim of the game is for your gun to shoot down aircraft and paratroopers that drop from teh sky. If you are hit by a bomb or 4 paratroopers land on either side, the game ends - you have only 1 life! Each shot costs 1 point, so spray-and-pray tactics will be punished. Another challenge is that the gun, once moving, will not stop until you fire. This makes aiming more challenging. All is not lost if paratroopers land though. If you can shoot the parachute of a descending paratrooper he will fall to his death. If he lands on one of the paratroopers on the ground they will also be killed.

CGA graphics limit the game to four colours from a limited set of palettes - the one shown here was most common.

This game was so ubiquitous on PC's that if you remember PC's in the 1980's, there is a very good chance that you will have come across it. The game's premise is quite simple and games are short. It won't keep you playing for hours, but is good for a quick play every now and then. After each game, I always felt I could have done better and that tempted me to try one more go, even though I should have been moving on to play other games.

This run was made on the 13th November 2022 and the score reached was 278.

Time stamps:
00:30 The between games screen.
00:32 Game start.
01:10 The jet wave starts.
01:30 Second helicopter wave begins.
02:10 Four paratroopers land on the left side. They will now begin to build a human pyramid to assault my gun. I have a brief time to drop paratroopers on their heads and reduce their number.
02:27 The paratroopers climb the wall and destroy my gun. Game Over. Final score 278 points.
